Foundation stone laid for Haliotis2 – A highly symbolic event marking the start of a major construction project.
25 August 2025Less than a month before the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, and Arnaud Bazire, Director of SUEZ Water France, laid the foundation stone for Haliotis 2.
This major project will see the construction of the future wastewater treatment and recovery complex for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. It will help preserve the Mediterranean while generating resources to support the Metropolis’ ecological transition and will be a key element of the Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan.
This large-scale project has received media coverage commensurate with its ambitions. The future resource plant will be capable of treating wastewater, producing biomethane, but also supply heating networks (by capturing heat from treated water before it is discharged into the sea and by incinerating sewage sludge at the UVE) while recycling nearly 5 million cubic meters of water per year via its REUT system, was widely promoted in the press and media during the ceremony.
